Email Newsletter

By John Schultz

I have recently received several emails regarding the Iowa State Daily email edition, for that reason I am posting the most recent updates regarding what you can do if you would like to receive the email edition.  To receive the email edition you must be registered with our new site, as of Aug. 8, 2008 our user database was cleared and our subscribers were required to re-register.  Because of a glitch in the system some registration information in our system was lost including newsletter subscriptions during the first three weeks after site launch.

So, any users not registered for the site that would like to receive our email edition may register by going to http://www.iowastatedaily.net/admin/register/.  Any users that have already registered may update their account information including email edition subscription status by going to http://www.iowastatedaily.net/myaccount/.

At this time we are aware of a problem with our login box on our homepage caused by site caching.  We are currently working to resolve this problem however until such time users may still log into the site from any section or article page.  If you have any questions comments or concerns I invite you to post them to this blog or contact me directly.

Last week Friday (September 5, 2008) all of the articles on our website were offline for a period of 9 hours starting at 6:00PM.  After a significant amount of work we were able to restore the articles and multimedia content that went with them.  While we have not yet identified the problem it did give us the chance to import our old site archives.  As of Saturday, September 6, 2008, users can use our advanced archive search tool to find articles that have been posted to any version of the Iowa State Daily website going back to 1993.  If you have any questions comments or concerns please feel free to contact me or leave a comment on this blog post.

Iowa State Daily Site Users:

Due to a glitch in our systems yesterday afternoon (26AUG2008) several of your comments left on articles throughout the site were accidentally erased.  We are doing our best to ensure that this does not happen again.  I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and I hope that you continue to comment on articles in the future.  I would also like to take a moment to encourage users to register with IowaStateDaily.com allowing them to leave comments and receive the email edition of the paper.  Please remember that you will not receive the email edition of the paper unless you have confirmed your email address by clicking on the link sent to your email address when you register.  Thank you for visiting IowaStateDaily.com and please let me know if there is any way we can improve our online services.

Very Respectfully:

The New AmesEats.com

Aug 6 Wed

By online

Iowa State Daily offers one of the most complete listings of dining and nightlife venues for Ames, IA and the surrounding areas.  With the launch of the new IowaStateDaily.com on the horizon we felt that AmesEats.com needed some updating.  After conversations with several of our premium listing holders, our users, and our staff the Online Department at The Iowa State Daily designed and built a new, more functional, and easier to use AmesEats.com.  As Student Online Director at The Iowa State Daily I invite you to check out some of the changes we’ve made.  We’ve included a link at the bottom of every page to report site problems that you may stumble accross and please feel free to leave comments on this blog posting with your thoughts on the site.
