Zaire Taylor, who has made nearly every clutch shot for the Tigers today, took the inbounds pass and sprinted down court, closely guarded by Gilstrap. He took a tough, pseudo-hook shoot that banked high off the back board and in.

This game has seemed to be headed for overtime all game long.  The largest lead of the game thus far is still just four points.  The Cyclones botched their last possession of the game, not even getting a shot of as Marquis Gilstrap got stripped as he went up for a three-point shot with a couple seconds left on the clock.

Hilton Coliseum is on their feet, as Laron Dendy soared to the basket for a dunk, only to be pulled down by Keith Ramsey for a personal foul. It may be the loudest this crowd has been, both in indignation at the foul but jubilation at the call.  Dendy made the first free throw and missed the second.

The second half is shaping up just like the first. Neither team can gain any breathing room at all as the biggest lead thus far has been 4 points.  It has also started off slowly in the scoring department as both teams have just 5 points in the first 4 minutes of the half.

Scott Christopherson showed up for the second half. He started the half with a steal and a jumper and on the next Tigers possession, he stole the ball again, getting fouled on the fast break, but missing the second free throw.

Nothing like a little of Billy Idol’sMony Mony to get the crowd pumped up for the second half.  The crowd is barley over half full however, and has been largely stoic through the first half.

Halftime: Iowa State 31 Missouri 31

The Cyclones had the ball to end the half, but they couldn’t separate themselves going into the locker room as Gilstrap missed a three bring the teams total to 0 for 8. He then ran over and blocked a three-quarters court attempt by Michael Dixon.

Missouri’s fast style of play has translated to a little sloppy play by both teams. The Cyclones have 9 turnovers while Missouri has 7.

The first half was very clean as the teams combined for 8 fouls. The Tigers however, have both Laurence Bowers and Steve Moore in foul trouble with 2 apiece.

Both teams have shot the ball well (50 percent for Missouri and 43.3 percent for Iowa State) .

Iowa State is owning the boards with 19 to the Tigers 12.

The Cyclones have turned the tables on Missouri.  After taking the lead, they have kept it, although the game has remained within 4 points.  The Cyclones are doing most of their damage with their big men. Brackins and Dendy have combined for 18 points.

Laron Dendy hit the deck on the last offensive possession, but after Craig Brackins got the steal, he was all alone. Dendy threw down a big one-handed dunk with his hand behind his head. The dunk got the Hilton crowd on their feet for the first time in the game. It also gave the Cyclones their first lead since the 18 min mark, although they have not trailed by more than 4 points all night.

The Tigers feature a fast style of play along with a balanced scoring attack.  They are led on offense by Kim English, who scores 14.4 points per game, but Laurence Bowers (10.2 ppg), J.T. Tiller (8.4 ppg), and Zaire Taylor (8.4 ppg). Defensively, the Tigers thrive on steals. Their 11.0 steals per game leads the Big 12 by more than 2.0 spg and would be a school record if they end the year at that rate.
