Iowa State will set aside its Cardinal and Gold threads this weekend, and instead don pink jerseys and shoes. The promotion, sponsored by Nike, is meant to raise Breast Cancer awareness. Breast Cancer awareness is especially important to coach Greg McDermott, whose wife, Theresa, has battled the disease for the last couple of years, but the disease is currently in remission.
“She’s doing great, but part of the reason she’s doing great is because her cancer was detected early,” McDermott said. “And that’s what’s this is really about. It’s about awareness and it’s about people knowing that they have to be proactive with their health.”
Iowa State’s student section, Cyclone Alley, will join the team by giving out pink t-shirts to Cyclone Alley members.
Brigham Young, Illinois and Oregon will also be wearing pink jerseys this weekend.
